SIMONE ZAUGG
On the other side of memory
Place: Gate and gatehouse of the house of family Berlin, Bahnhofstr. 45
Thanks to Ruth und Gerd Berlin
Through the foto collection of Mrs. Berlin that spend all her life in Brueck we enter gently into the private space of a house and family history. The backsides of an important foto of the house are pinned on the outside of the gate. On the backside of the gate inside the courtyard there is a videoprojection with numerous backsides of family pictures. Slowly they turn their frontsides to us unvealing the story of the life and the house of the family. They appear and disappear. The visitors put these images together like a movie and without notice they Stepp over the threshold of privacy and look behind the facade.

Statement:
Simone Zaugg sees her multimedia and context-related installations as places through which the viewer can move through time and space. The public, the digital, the intimate and the institutional are often encountered in her works. She creates images and develops situations in which the visual language is accompanied by the perception of public and private spaces. Her artistic strategy is based on a sensitive integration of the public and its physical, sensual and mental participation in her context-related stagings.
Her works open up spaces for personal histories and transfer the process of creating the image to the viewer. As an artist, she responds to architectural, historical and social environments, and people are her physical and psychic frames of reference, serving as a yardstick and seismograph for her work.
